Alex & Pratik, The Chanler at Cliff Walk

Alex and Pratik's weekend in Newport began with a sangeet at Newport Beach House, and the next day they were married at The Chanler. Late October gave us a clear blue sky and red leaves against the white of the house. Upstairs, Stoneblossom's blush roses stood in a row on the mantel beneath an old gilded portrait. Alex sat by the window in a strapless tulle gown and neck scarf, and Pratik buttoned his jacket in a stripe of window light.

She saw her father first, then Pratik. We made the wedding party photos on the lawn under trees just turning, the sun coming through the branches. At four, Tony Silva played the processional, and Alex walked down a petal-covered aisle to "Can't Help Falling in Love." Guests in the white chairs were wiping their eyes before it ended. Petals came down as Pratik walked back up the aisle, laughing at the sky.

Afterward we went down toward the Cliff Walk, Alex in a feather wrap, the two of them leaning into each other on the path below the house. Cocktail hour ran on the lawn as the sky went pink over the water and the moon came up. After dinner in the tent came cake on the terrace, topped with figs and pear, and a first dance to "Yellow." Later Alex changed into a short beaded dress, and they toasted with martinis at the bar.
